Welcome to The Podcast on the Plains, SEC Country’s daily Auburn Football podcast with host Zac Blackerby. We are joined by SEC Country’s own Benjamin Wolk, who gives us an Auburn recruiting update after the Tigers landed big-name wide receiver Matthew Hill.
Brookwood High 4-star wide receiver Matthew Hill grew up an Auburn fan. Now, he’s committed to play for the Tigers.
He plans on enrolling early, which will give him a chance to make an impression early in 2018.
Hill is the second receiver in Auburn’s signing class for 2018. He joins Shedrick Jackson, nephew of Auburn legend and Heisman Trophy winner Bo Jackson.
Blackerby asked Wolk about his trip to Georgia to cover some big events that included the top prospects in the state. He shared what several Auburn targets said.
He also spent some time talking about outside linebacker target Adam Anderson and the unique way Auburn has worked its way into competing for him. He also asked several players where they thought Justin Fields, the nation’s top quarterback target, would end up. A few said he could end up playing for the Tigers.
Wolk ran through the rest of the 2018 Auburn recruiting class and offered thoughts on how every player could contribute, including Joey Gatewood, the forgotten man. The two joked about how solid he’s been to Auburn and how many are overlooking the future potential leader of the Auburn football team.
Lastly, Auburn’s running back situation is brought up. We’re less than a week from Asa Martin’s scheduled announcement, and the Tigers only have one running back committed for 2018: Shaun Shivers. It will be interesting to see how Auburn moves forward in this situation.
