Auburn football: All the offense on Day 3; insight from Kerryon Johnson

Welcome to SEC Country’s daily War Eagle Wakeup, a rundown of everything happening in Auburn football and Auburn Tigers athletics with Lauren Shute. Today, Kerryon Johnson talks about what cornerbacks are likely to do when covering Kamryn Pettway and the not-so-funny media viewing periods:

Day 3 of Auburn’s fall camp included a lot of talk about offense since Chip Lindsey made his first preseason appearance in front of media.

Then, Kamryn Pettway and Kerryon Johnson stepped in front of recorders and cameras to talk about the coming season.

One thing was pretty clear on Wednesday: Auburn is going to be a force when the Tigers have possession of the football — and that could happen a lot.

Whether it’s Jarrett Stidham tossing to a slew of talented receivers or Pettway bursting through SEC defenses, Auburn should be fun to watch in 2017.

On that note, here’s a funny exchange from Johnson (quite possibly the best interview and Twitter follow on the team) regarding Pettway being “defended” by a cornerback:

Question: What happens when Bubba (aka Pettway) sees a cornerback on a passing route?

KJ: … Bubba scores that every time.

Question: Does the corner get laid out?
KJ: Yes. Either he gets laid out or he moves out of the way. Look, I … if the corner steps in his way, good for him. Respect. But I don’t think there’s going to be many corners out there that can stop him 1-on-1, squared up. There’s very few. Very, very few.

If you pay attention to media outlets that cover Auburn, you’ll probably hear something at some point during fall camp regarding stretching lines.

That’s typically what’s taken up a big chunk of time in media viewing periods, and it’s become kind of a joke.

Here’s what the team proceeding into stretching lines typically looks like. Of course, media doesn’t get to see this every day, but it’s always humorous for one reason or another.
