Auburn football: Scrimmage day in Jordan-Hare, a blast from the past, world travelers take flight
Auburn football is the No. 1 topic in the War Eagle Wakeup every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across the Tigers sports world. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Auburn football, recruiting, basketball and more.
Taking center stage
Nothing says Auburn football quite like Jordan-Hare, so it only makes sense that the Tigers would move over to the stadium for their first scrimmage.
The shift occurs every fall camp and there’s always an anticipation that builds beforehand. For players, there’s something different about a game-like setting they’ll be facing on Saturdays this fall. It also gives Gus Malzahn and his coaching staff a chance to see who might be able to take on a bigger role this season.
It’s also a sign of another exciting part of fall: football season is on the way.

In other Auburn football news:
- John Franklin III is focused on his move to wide receiver for his final year with the Tigers.
- Wide receiver Kyle Davis has done more than his part since his return to Auburn football.
- Malzahn is concerned about the Auburn punter competition that’s unfolding.
- Jason Smith will do whatever it takes to help Auburn win, including making a move from offense to defense.
- Monday is the first scrimmage, and it’s time for some real evaluation for Malzahn and his staff.
Auburn basketball departed for Italy on Sunday. The Tigers will play teams in Rome, Venice and Florence, tour and eat incredible meals.
But before taking off, freshman Chuma Okeke interviewed Anfernee McLemore. Check out the video in the Tweet below.

Tweet of the day
Well, really this was the Tweet of the weekend.
Jason Smith and John Franklin III graduated Saturday and Malzahn took a few minutes to recognize the achievement before practice.
For the outside world, football is the focus for most of a student-athlete’s time in school. However, all the behind the scenes work that doesn’t land in highlight videos results in the greatest accomplishment of their time at Auburn. Congrats to the grads!
