Auburn football: Inside the Tigers’ first preseason scrimmage; soccer’s ranking prior to season
Auburn football is the No. 1 topic in the War Eagle Wakeup every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across the Tigers sports world. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Auburn football, recruiting, basketball and more.
A scrimmage sneak peek
Media is only allowed to watch 15-25 minutes of practice a handful of times throughout the preseason, so seeing any part of a scrimmage is out of the question.
Fortunately, Auburn football’s official Twitter account posted some shots from the scrimmage on Monday inside Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Players reported that the defense had a big day, but summaries on the day varied overall. Auburn will be back in Jordan-Hare on Saturday, and that’s when position battles still in question will really start to be solidified. Check out these highlights:

In other Auburn football news:
- Auburn quarterbacks have “numerous things to work on” following first scrimmage of fall camp.
- Auburn CB Jamel Dean continues strong preseason camp with pick-6 in initial scrimmage.
- Kevin Steele’s defense “won the day” when Auburn football practiced in Jordan-Hare Stadium on Monday.
- This is why coach Gus Malzahn held Kamryn Pettway and Kerryon Johnson out of the first scrimmage.
Among top teams in the country
Auburn soccer had its best season ever last year, and the Tigers are looking to build on that in 2017. And they’re in pretty good position to do it, too.
Karen Hoppa’s team landed at No. 10 in the United Soccer Coaches preseason rankings this week.
It's official – the Tigers will open the season at No. 10 in the nation!
