HOOVER, Ala. — Auburn’s Braden Smith is one of 81 players named to the watch list for the Outland Trophy, presented to the college football’s best interior lineman on offense or defense.
Alabama offensive tackle Cam Robinson won the 2016 trophy and was selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft (No. 34 overall) by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The 6-foot-6, 303-pound Smith, has made 27 consecutive starts for Auburn since 2014 heading into his senior season. He was named to the All-SEC second team by conference coaches but moved from right guard to right tackle this spring.
It’s a position he’ll most likely play at the next level, and it’ll be an important part of Auburn’s transition to a more balanced offense.
