“Davion is one of the most coachable players I’ve ever had,” Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said in a statement. “He had a great freshman season at Auburn. We wish him well moving forward.”
A source told SEC Country on Thursday that Mitchell’s decision to transfer was based purely on playing time.
Mitchell, a freshman during the 2017-18 season that saw Auburn win a share of the SEC regular season title, contributed with 3.7 points and 1.1 rebounds per game while playing 17.1 minutes per contest.
A 4-star signee in the 2017 signing class out of Liberty County HS in Hinesville, Ga., Mitchell scored a season-high 10 points twice: against George Mason on Dec. 3 and then against Connecticut on Dec. 23.
He also proved critical in the Tigers 1st round win in the NCAA Tournament against College of Charleston, logging 20 minutes as starting point guard Jared Harper got into early foul trouble.
