The Auburn men’s basketball team is losing an assistant coach.
Todd Golden has been hired as an associate head coach at the University of San Francisco, according to a report from ESPN’s Jeff Goodman. He played with current San Francisco coach Kyle Smith at Saint Mary’s.
Golden has been on Auburn’s staff since 2014, when Auburn coach Bruce Pearl hired him as director of basketball operations. Pearl promoted him to assistant coach last season.
“Todd Golden is going to be a pretty hot commodity as an assistant,” Pearl told AL.com’s James Crepea in March. “He had a chance to go to (Nevada) with (Coach Eric) Musselman as his associate head coach (last year) and stayed here because he had a combination of commitment to me that he’d be here for a couple of years and also he wound up moving up on the staff and I had told him that he would be moving up at some point and it just worked out a year ago.”
Now, Pearl will have to search for a replacement.
