AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn will have to rebound from a 19-13 loss to No. 2 Clemson this Saturday as nonconference foe Arkansas State comes to town. The experts in Las Vegas think the Tigers will do just that — by a comfortable margin.
According to Odds Shark, Auburn opened as a 13-point favorite over Arkansas State on Sunday afternoon. That spread quickly ballooned to 19 points at several sportsbooks.
Both teams want to rebound from Week 1 defeats, but the visiting Red Wolves will probably have a worse taste in their mouths coming into Saturday night’s matchup in Jordan-Hare Stadium, which will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. EST on the SEC Network.
Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn’s former employer dropped a shocking 31-10 home game to fellow Group of Five program Toledo. The Red Wolves allowed 556 total yards, including 371 through the air, and 31 unanswered points in the second and third quarters. According to ESPN, Arkansas State closed as a 3.5-point favorite in that matchup.
The Tigers last played the Red Wolves in 2013, with Auburn taking a 38-9 home win in Malzahn’s second game as head coach. Auburn is 3-0 all-time against Arkansas State, notching a 27-0 win in 2006 and a 52-26 victory in the 2010 season opener.
