Here are the latest Auburn recruiting storylines from the weekend.
Auburn hosts surprise visitor Ryan Johnson
Johnson was on the Plains unexpectedly on Saturday. The four-star defensive end checked out Auburn’s A-Day spring practice. The Tigers are certainly an early favorite here. Johnson said Auburn is among his ‘top three schools’. Alabama is most likely the stiffest contender at this point.
In-state quarterback takes in A-Day
Three-star dual-threat quarterback Kadarius Toney has yet to report an offer from Auburn, but he says the Tigers will continue to evaluate him closely. Toney has reported offers from Georgia Tech and South Carolina, among others, and he could potentially be an option if Auburn cannot sign another priority target at quarterback.
Georgia linebacker Tyler Taylor showing interest in Auburn
Tyler Taylor has seen his stock rise considerably in recent months. Offers from Georgia and Auburn have rolled in, and he’ll likely be the source of attention throughout this recruiting cycle. He visited the Plains over the weekend. His former teammate is five-star defensive tackle Derrick Brown, the anchor of Auburn’s 2016 recruiting class. While the Tigers are also targeting several other linebackers in this class, Taylor could be an option if they’re unable to land a higher priority.
- Auburn’s lead widens for in-state athlete Malcolm Askew — The four-star athlete says the gap is growing between Auburn and other contending schools.
- Auburn ‘neck-and-neck’ with Tennessee for linebacker Chandler Wooten — Following his visit on Saturday, Chandler Wooten says the Tigers and the Volunteers are equal.
- Nation’s No. 7 prospect says he’s ‘110 percent’ committed to Auburn — Five-star offensive tackle Calvin Ashley solidified his commitment over the weekend.
- Auburn, Herb Hand a ‘huge factor’ for four-star offensive guard — Herb Hand’s ties to the state of Pennsylvania are paying dividends for the the Tigers.
