What is the latest with Auburn recruiting?
Here’s a look at some of the top storylines from the past few days, and some new prospects on the Tigers’ radar.
Cancer-stricken Auburn signee Tashawn Manning on path to enroll innext January
Originally, three-star defensive tackle Tashawn Manning was slated to participate in treatment for up to 30 months. Over the weekend, though, Manning told SEC Country he’s down to nine as part of a new protocol. Barring any setbacks, he would enroll at Auburn in January of 2017. Manning was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia, a form of cancer, back in November. Since then, however, he’s returned to his original weight. In February, he was granted a waiver by the NCAA to sign his letter of intent with the Tigers.
How close were the Tigers to landing a top cornerback from Florida?
Closer than you think. Three-star cornerback Tavyn Jackson, a prospect from Tallahassee, Fla., recently told SEC Country he had planned on committing to the Tigers during an unofficial visit to Tthe Plains weeks ago. He decided against it. But Auburn remains to be the school to beat for Jackson, who unofficially visited Florida over the weekend. While Auburn is targeting a handful of defensive backs in 2017, Jackson could be one of the first to commit to the program. His lead recruiters are defensive backs coach Wesley McGriff and receivers coach Kodi Burns.
Commitment watch: Georgia linebacker Chandler Wooten is nearing a decision
Before he arrived atto Auburn for A-Day a little more than a week agotwo weekends ago, Chandler Wooten had named Tennessee his outright leader. But his visit to Tthe Plains changed all of that. Wooten told SEC Country the Volunteers and the Tigers are ‘neck-and-neck.’. Just days ago, Wooten conceded he’ll be making his decision ‘within the next month.’. It’s a tight race for the three-star linebacker, who appears likely to sign with either Tennessee or Auburn when he does decide.
