AUBURN, Ala. — Kerryon Johnson’s spring game didn’t exactly go according to plan.
The running back started A-Day with a 5-yard rush during the first team’s initial drive. Johnson scored a touchdown on the very next play. He rushed for 47 yards on 7 attempts (1 touchdown).
At the end of the first quarter, however, the sophomore suffered an injury that sent him into the locker room. SEC Network reported Johnson suffered a high ankle sprain.
Walk-on CJ Tolbert took over when Johnson left the game. Kamryn Pettway did not make an appearance in the spring game, as expected.
Health has been a primary concern for Johnson after he dealt with a nagging ankle injury throughout the 2016 season. Developing depth at the running back spot has been a focus of the Tigers this spring.
