Auburn scored one of the biggest commitments in the team’s already sterling class Thursday night.
Florida athlete Devan Barrett announced he was committing to Auburn over Florida, Florida State, Tennessee and Notre Dame. The Tampa native is rated as the top athlete in Florida according to Scout.

He told Corey Bender of Scout, Auburn just felt like home:
“Really, it came down to where I felt comfortable and it just felt like family every time I went up to Auburn,” Barrett told Scout. “Nate (Craig) just made me feel like I was at home, and also introduced me to all of the players and stuff like that.
“I’m also comfortable with coach (Tim) Horton, the running backs coach. It just came down to where I was comfortable at, and I think Auburn is the place.”
It should also help that Auburn has established something of a recruiting pipeline into the Tampa Bay area. That should help Barrett get more comfortable in his new home.
Barrett plays running back and safety for Tampa Catholic High School. It is unclear where he will play next year — most schools were recruiting him as a safety but Auburn may be willing to add him to their cadre of backs, Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports reports. He is the 17th best running back prospect and 35th best overall prospect from Florida according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound back ran for 1,891 yards and 21 rushing touchdowns last year as a junior.
