AUBURN, Ala. — Before Auburn softball returns to SEC action this weekend against Missouri, the Tigers face off against a familiar nonconference foe at Jane B. Moore Field.
No. 7 Auburn (33-6, 8-4 SEC) hosts Georgia State (26-14, 11-4 Sun Belt) on Wednesday night. The Tigers will shoot for their 26th nonconference win of the season, and they’ve won their last 11 games against teams outside of the SEC.
Auburn bounced back from a lopsided loss in its most recent matchup, a 3-1 victory over ranked conference foe Ole Miss. The Sunday victory featured strong days at the plate from senior third baseman Kasey Cooper and freshman right fielder Alyssa Rivera. Starting pitcher Kaylee Carlson picked up her 20th win of the season.
The Tigers want to see a similar rebound for sophomore starting pitcher Makayla Martin. The California native has lost two of her last three starts in the circle and has allowed 15 earned runs during that stretch.
Auburn is 15-5 all-time in softball against Georgia State. The Tigers are a perfect 6-0 in the series against the Panthers under head coach Clint Myers.
