AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn softball coach Clint Myers saw a few things he liked during his club’s most recent conference outing.
After dropping the opening game of the weekend series against Missouri, Auburn (36-7, 10-5 SEC) rebounded, earning back-to-back wins over the visiting Tigers.
“You saw there was more passion on Saturday and Sunday,” Myers said. “You also saw persistence because we won and you do what you need to do in order to get that job to win. The progress is probably the most important. We’re getting closer to where we need to be for postseason. We’re moving in that direction.”
Three weeks remain until Auburn travels to the SEC Tournament and just 4 weeks are left until NCAA regional play begins.
Before Auburn can look too far into the future, however, the Tigers must first attempt to add another victory to its record by defeating Kennesaw State in their final home non-conference matchup of the regular season.
As important as a win is for Auburn, who stayed at No. 7 in the most recent USA Today/NFCA coaches poll (and also in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll) growth continues to be the most important factor.
Myers knows a lot of adjustments can be made in the time remaining until the conclusion of the regular season. He, and fortunately his team according to senior third baseman Kasey Cooper, also understand it needs to make the most of every minute.
“I felt like every day we get stronger,” Cooper said. “And every game we learn a little bit more about ourselves and become a little bit more of a team and play as it.”
