Win or go home

It’s finally time for Auburn baseball to begin SEC Tournament play in Hoover, Ala., starting with an opening game against Kentucky.

It’s single elimination, so a win against the Wildcats will be required for coach Butch Thompson’s team to advance. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT and will be tossed in Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.

Kentucky enters the conference tournament as the No. 10 seed and has a 34-21 record (13-17 SEC). Two of those wins, however, helped the Wildcats clinch a series win over Auburn in Lexington in March. Auburn will have its chance to keep playing in Hoover on Tuesday afternoon. Here’s a view from the stadium:

Will Holland’s weekly honor

For Auburn to succeed in the SEC Tournament, it’s going to need Will Holland to keep doing what he’s been doing.

That includes picking up the SEC Player of the Week honor on Monday, following a big weekend against LSU to finish the regular season.

Holland was 10 for 14 at the plate with 6 runs scored, 4 doubles and 6 RBI in the series. Oh, and 2 home runs, too. It’s the first SEC Player of the Week honor for Holland (he was a Freshman of the Week last season).

And it wasn’t exactly just a good weekend for Holland. The shortstop has been a force at the plate all year long — he’s one of five players with double-digit home runs this season. Holland finished the regular season with a team-best .329 batting average and 51 runs scored (and tied for the team lead with 15 doubles).

Here’s a look at the work Holland put in over the weekend against LSU:
