Butch Thompson 2024

No. Butch Thompson is not running for president in 2024, but he will be leading Auburn baseball at least until then.

The university announced a contract extension for the head baseball coach this week, which pleased several in and around the program. Thompson led Auburn to its first NCAA Super Regional appearance in 19 years this season.

Since his hiring in October of 2015, Thompson has totaled 103 wins in three quick seasons and led the Tigers to back-to-back NNCAA Tournament appearances. On top of that, he’s also had 17 players drafted, including the first overall pick of the 2018 MLB Draft Casey Mize.

Here’s what Thompson had to say about his contract news:

“Auburn is a special place for my family and me,” Thompson said. “I’m very fortunate to have a great group of young men to lead, a tremendous staff and a great fan base and community that support our program. I’m proud of the accomplishments we have made on and off the field, yet there is still much work to be done. I’m appreciative and thankful for the commitment and support from Dr. Steven Leath and Allen Greene and blessed to have the opportunity to lead the Auburn baseball program every day.”
