Auburn may be trying to pluck away one of Clemson’s top recruits.
Tre Lamar, a 4-star linebacker, told the AJC’s SECCountry.com over the weekend that the other Tigers continue to recruit him heavily despite his commitment to Clemson.
“That’s really the only competitor right now,” Lamar said. “I have a good relationship with the coaches up there (at Auburn). Just being able to talk to them about stuff outside of football as well as football. I can fit really well into that system as well.”
The 6-foot-4, 240-pound product from Roswell High School (Ga.) told the AJC last month that his second school of choice “probably would’ve been Auburn”. Lamar, of course, committed to Clemson in July.
He told SECCountry.com that he speaks with Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp every now and again.
However, he maintained that he is still 100 percent to Clemson. In fact, Lamar is unsure if he’ll even use one of his four remaining official visits. He confirmed to SECCountry.com that he’ll likely take an official visit to Clemson on Nov. 7 for its game against Florida State.
Lamar is rated as the No. 16 player in Georgia.
