As they say in the Twitter troll game, better late than never. Or maybe they don’t. Either way, Auburn jumped in on a little bit of Twitter fun with the defending national champs on Tuesday.
On Saturday, the official Clemson University Twitter account tweeted a photo of its campus with the caption: “Name a more beautiful campus to call home… We’ll wait.” And wait they did.
Three days later, the official Auburn University account showed up with a response. The message, “#WarEagle”, accompanied a beautiful picture of The Plains:
Auburn and Clemson will meet on the gridiron in Death Valley on Sept. 9.
There may be some ill feelings from last year’s season opener, which saw Clemson narrowly escape Jordan-Hare Stadium with a 19-13 win. Auburn fans were left with a bad taste in their mouths after squandering several opportunities in a game against what would become the eventual national champions.
With Clemson looking to replace Deshaun Watson and other key pieces, it would appear that Clemson may be vulnerable for this early-season matchup.
