Auburn will host a surprise visitor in Daniel Thomas this weekend.
The three-star safety from Montgomery, Ala., has decided to officially visit The Plains after Clemson landed a commitment from safety Nolan Turner (Birmingham, Ala.) on Jan. 21.
“Clemson got a commit last Saturday, and they weren’t taking any more,” said Thomas, who is down to South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, Clemson and Auburn.
Auburn has yet to extend a scholarship to the 6-foot, 190-pound senior, but he is hoping that changes following this weekend’s visit. The Alabama native has been in conversation more with the Tigers since the hiring of defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, whom he spoke with a week ago.
“He let me know that before he got there, Auburn had offered up a lot of scholarships that he couldn’t control, but they’re trying to open it up right now where I can get an offer,” said Thomas.
Currently, the Tigers have one lone safety commitment in three-star Marlon Character (Atlanta, Ga.).
