The Auburn Tigers will host the Southern Miss Golden Eagles at Jordan-Hare Stadium during the 2018 and 2020 seasons, the team announced Thursday.
Southern Miss will travel to the Plains on Sept. 29, 2018 and Sept. 26, 2020, Auburn announced. Auburn is set to pay Southern Miss a total of $3.55 million for the two games, according to the Hattiesburg American.
The Golden Eagles have long been a solid mid-major program in the Southeast, scoring some major victories in the past. Southern Miss went 9-5 last year. They hosted Mississippi State last season, losing 34-16. They will travel to Lexington to play Kentucky and to Knoxville to play Tennessee this year.
Auburn is 17-5 against Southern Miss all time. The last matchup came in 2008 with the Tigers winning 27-13. Southern Miss’ last win came in a 10-9 win in 1991.
Obviously there are still a few years before these teams meet again. But it should be a decent early-season challenge for Auburn when that time comes in a few years.
