AUBURN, Ala. — When Daniel Carlson made his 61st career field goal in the Tiger’s win against Vanderbilt on Saturday, edging Wes Byrum for the Auburn record, an important group noticed.
The Palm Beach County Sports Commission — who also presents the Lou Groza Award to he best kicker in the country named Carlson a “Star of the Week” on Monday. Three players are recognized by the commission every week.
Carlson nailed three field goals against the Commodores from distances of 33, 45 and 53. In addition to an impressive field goal percentage this season (90.9 percent), the junior has been automatic on extra point attempts (he’s made all of his 132 career tries).
The kicker’s 53-yard field goal during the third quarter was his third from beyond 50 yards this season. Carlson has 321 career points, ranking second all-time on the Auburn list behind John Vaughn.
