Auburn’s Gus Malzahn and Bruce Pearl are both paid very well by the school. So it’s only fitting that the two coaches made a big donation back to the school.
Per a release from the school, Pearl and Malzahn gave a combined $500,000 to the school’s “Because This is Auburn” fundraising-campaign. The campaign has now raised over a billion dollars for the school.
“Kristi and I always talk about using our influence in a positive way, and the Lord has blessed us to give back,” Malzahn said. “Auburn has been so great to us. To give back to something that means so much to us is a real special feeling. We’re blessed to be in a position to do that.”
“You can’t ask others to do something you aren’t willing to do yourself,” Pearl said. “So if I’m going to assist the campaign in asking people to invest in our young people and their education, I really can’t ask them to do something I am not willing to do myself. That’s why it was important for us to give.”
Malzahn and the Tigers are coming off a home loss to Clemson. They take on Arkansas State on Saturday. Pearl and the men’s basketball team open their season Nov. 11 against North Florida.
