AUBURN, Ala. — John Franklin III has not won Auburn’s starting job at quarterback.
He also did not represent the Tigers at SEC Media Days.
But that doesn’t mean he’s taking time off this week after teammates Carl Lawson, Montravius Adams and Marcus Davis sat in the spotlight in front of nearly 1,000 media members in Hoover, Ala.
The junior college transfer is locked in a tight battle for the starting job and must beat out Jeremy Johnson and Sean White for the right to start the season opener Sept. 3 against Clemson, so Franklin III is taking no chances on Auburn’s “off days” from workouts.
On Wednesday, Franklin III took to the indoor facility at the Auburn Athletics Complex to work a conditioning drill throwing multiple football to a receiver. The video he released features the song “New Level” by A$AP Ferg featuring Future.

Franklin III has done all he can this offseason to impress coaches. He worked out privately with Michael Vick in Florida and has apparently packed on pounds and now weighs 192 pounds after coming to campus in the 170-180 range, according to a Twitter photo posted earlier this week.
Gus Malzahn believes he will be able to name a starter following the first two weeks of practices set to begin in the first week of August.
