Ben Davis’ father, Wayne, isn’t the only known figure in college football to have walked the streets of Gordo, Ala.
Count Kevin Steele among that group. The newly hired Auburn defensive coordinator, who has recruited the five-star linebacker since he was stationed at Alabama, intends to make it back to the city he grew up in on Thursday evening to check in on Davis following the conclusion of his high school basketball game, per the Gordo standout.
“He recruited me at Alabama, too,” Davis said of his relationship with Steele. “When he went to LSU, he recruited me there. And now he went to Auburn and he’s recruiting me now.”
Added Davis: “I’ve been to Auburn a bunch of times. Every time I go there I find something new that I like about it.”
The 6-foot-3, 240-pound linebacker is down to Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame and, lastly, Auburn, in that order. It would appear the Tigers have some ground to make up, though Davis admits he’s followed Steele throughout the course of his career, particularly during his tenure with LSU.
Davis, the No. 1 inside linebacker in the country, is scheduled to take an official visit to Auburn on Jan. 22 followed by another to Alabama on Jan. 29.
