AUBURN, Ala. — Gus Malzahn spoke about graduate transfer Marshall Taylor for the first time in several days following the team’s practice at the Auburn Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The 6-foot-3 defensive back transferred from Miami (Ohio) earlier in the year and worked out with the Tigers during the summer. Taylor did not practice with the team throughout preseason camp and his status remained unclear. Malzahn repeatedly cited “personal reasons” as the reason for his absence in early August.
“We expect him to be back this week,” Malzahn said. “I don’t know exactly what day but we expect him to be back.”
Taylor started 11 games at Miami in 2015, amassing 39 tackles. After missing an extended period of time this fall, however, his exact timeline for participation and role for the coming season is undetermined.
“We’ll just have to wait and see,” Malzahn said. “We’ll just have to wait and see how everything progresses and all that. It’s hard to say right now.”
