It was a quiet day for Austin Wiley as the United States won its round of 16 matchup during FIBA World Cup play on Wednesday morning.
The Americans defeated Mali 117-69, but much like in the opening game Wiley was limited by fouls. Wiley finished with 2 points and 3 rebounds in just under 10 minutes.
With the Auburn basketball center in foul trouble, Kentucky’s P.J. Washington scored a team-high 20 points while UNLV forward Brandon McCoy grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds.
Wiley, a rising sophomore, is still the only member of Team USA averaging a double-double through the first three games of international play. And there’s still more basketball to be played.
The United States will face whoever emerges victorious when Germany and New Zealand play later today. The U19 national team is seeking its third straight gold medal after winning it all in 2013 and 2015.
