Justin Osborne is here to ease Auburn’s tackle recruiting concerns.
The Tigers haven’t taken a tackle commitment since Austin Troxell in the Class of 2017. Osborne ended that trend Sunday. The IMG Academy (Fla.) tackle, who recently de-committed from TCU, didn’t take long to choose his next destination.
Osborne announced his Auburn pledge Sunday, a week after his official visit to the Plains.
Osborne ranks as the nation’s No. 40 tackle and the No. 428 overall prospect. Offensive line coach J.B. Grimes made as many allowable trips as possible this spring to scout at IMG Academy. It wasn’t until recently that Osborne emerged as the most likely OL candidate for the Tigers to nab from the Bradenton, Fla., prep school.
Auburn wasn’t the only program to pick up interest in Osborne this spring. Florida, Arizona and Utah all offered after Osborne’s commitment to TCU on Feb. 7.
Osborne took an official visit to the Plains last weekend. He announced his de-commitment from the Horned Frogs shortly thereafter, and it came with the full intention of re-committing to Auburn shortly after that.
The 6-foot-4, 275-pound tackle becomes the 12th commitment in the Tigers class. Osborne’s commitment has Auburn as the No. 14 class in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings after losing a pledge from Cordale Flott earlier in the day.
It’s possible Osborne isn’t the last IMG Academy prospect to land in Auburn’s 2019 class. The Tigers are still actively recruiting running back Noah Cain as the No. 1 target on the board.
