Shaun Shivers might be a symbol of recruiting momentum for Auburn.
The 2018 running back out of Chaminade-Madonna Prep (Fla.) announced his college decision Wednesday on a local television broadcast. The 5-foot-7, 160-pound speedster picked the Tigers, which comes at a convenient time for Auburn in recruiting.

Shivers marks Auburn’s first commitment since Aug. 19, when 3-star safety Jordyn Peters joined the 2017 class. Auburn has hit somewhat of a standstill as many recruits waited to see how the Tigers would respond after their 1-2 star.
Four wins in a row appear have helped ease some of the hot-seat concerns. Auburn did a great job of staying in communication with Shivers once the most recent contact period went into effect.
The Tigers topped West Virginia, Virginia Tech and TCU for Shivers’ services.
Many will look at Shivers’ measurements and say, ‘He’s a little small, isn’t he?’ Sure, he’s an undersized back, but that’s the only reason he’s rated at a 3-star level to begin. Shivers holds offers from Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State and South Carolina, as well.
But the speed Shivers has is what makes him the No. 6 all-purpose running back in the country. He’s the 52nd-ranked player in the state of Alabama.
Shivers joins 4-star quarterback commit Joey Gatewood and JUCO defensive line pledge Daquan Newkirk in the 2018 class. Auburn jumped from No. 17 to No. 12, thanks to the Shivers commitment.
This should be a sign of things to come in Auburn recruiting. It’s been a few months since a felt comfortable enough to commit to the Tigers. Shivers changed that after a four-game winning streak and a sensation rushing performance.
