It’s been a good start to the week for Auburn’s ace pitcher Casey Mize. First, it was seeing his team punch its ticket to a Super Regional for the first time since 1999.
As if that wasn’t enough, Mize followed up that success by hearing his own name called No. 1 overall by the Detroit Tigers in the 2018 MLB Draft.

The right-hander has been dominant for Auburn this season. In 16 starts this season (109 2/3 total innings), he put up 151 strikeouts and finished with a 2.95 ERA.
After being the top selection on Monday night, Mize is now the highest-drafted player in school history.
He’s being compared to another player who was drafted in the top 2 by the Detroit Tigers, too.
Army coach Jim Foster said Casey Mize was “as advertised” and reminds him of a young Justin Verlander
