Charles Barkley is by far the most outspoken celebrity connected to Auburn, and he delivered a message to the Clemson football team that many Tigers fans would echo this week.
Early in Thursday night’s edition of “Inside the NBA” on TNT, Barkley thanked Clemson for beating Auburn’s hated rival, Alabama, on Monday night in the College Football Playoff national championship game.
Deadspin tweeted a video of Barkley’s message to Clemson, which included a mocking “Roll Tide”:

Rob Perez of Fox Sports tweeted a longer video of Barkley’s comments, which includes him saying that Auburn and Alabama tied for second place since Clemson was the only champion:

The former Auburn basketball star and basketball Hall of Famer is an Alabama native, and he’s never shied away from a chance to jab the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Last year, he called Alabama fans “the most obnoxious fans in the world,” per Wesley Sinor of AL.com:
“I think that the SEC kind of makes you hate it because the fans are so obnoxious,” Barkley said. “I can understand why people don’t like the SEC. I think clearly it’s by far the best football conference in the world and I think Danny will admit that. But I will admit this — the fans are the most obnoxious people. You know, Alabama fans are the worst. Then you factor in Georgia fans, you know they’re awful, Florida, LSU fans.”
“I think Nick Saban is the greatest coach of all time in my opinion, and when I tell Alabama fans they’re the most obnoxious fans in the world, you know what they say to me? They don’t even say, ‘No we’re not.’ They say, ‘We’re not as bad as those LSU fans.’ They never take the time to say, ‘We’re not the most obnoxious fans.’ They never try to defend themselves… When they say, ‘We’re not as bad as those LSU fans,’ they let you know just how bad they are.”
Plenty of Auburn fans around the world felt the same way Barkley did Monday night when the Tigers knocked off the Crimson Tide in Tampa. Some Auburn fans even decided to roll Toomer’s Corner following Clemson’s victory.
It’s unclear if all those fans share in Barkley’s belief that Auburn tied for second place behind Clemson this season.
