Auburn basketball is stuck at home this postseason, but Charles Barkley doesn’t think that will be the case next year.
Barkley, a former Tigers great, made a bold proclamation on CBS before Friday’s games began. He doesn’t just think the Tigers have a chance at making the NCAA Tournament next year. He believes they are a lock.

“Auburn will be playing in the Big Dance next year,” Barkley said. “Guaranteed. And y’all are going to give me the day off.”
The Tigers were 18-14 this season and 7-11 in the SEC. They were young but very talented with guard Mustapha Heron and center Austin Wiley leading the way. Both players were freshmen and former 5-star recruits in 247Sports’ composite rankings.
Heron led the team in scoring at 15.2 points per game and was among the Tigers’ best 3-point shooters at 42.3 percent as a true freshman. Wiley led the team in field goal percentage at 58.4 and was second in rebounds at 4.7 per game despite playing fewer than 20 minutes per game.
With that core coming back and two more 4-star recruits coming in with the 2017 class, there’s certainly a chance for the Tigers to take a big step forward in 2017-2018. And if they do, it sounds like Barkley will be there to cheer them on in their first tournament game.
