Clemson coach Dabo Swinney takes a shot at Auburn when discussing polls
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney complained about having to fill out the Amway Coaches Poll on Tuesday and took a shot at Auburn in the process.
“Those same people that don’t believe in us, those are the same people that believed in Auburn, Arizona State and Oregon,” Swinney told reporters.
Auburn began the season ranked No. 7 in the coaches poll and fell to No. 15 after nearly losing to FCS opponent Jacksonville State. Auburn dropped to No. 25 after being blown out by LSU and fell out of the poll after last Saturday’s loss to Mississippi State.
Clemson is ranked No. 11 in the latest Amway Coaches Poll, but Swinney went on to express his displeasure with having to vote on the poll in the first month of the season.
“I have to do a poll every week and it’s the biggest waste of my time,” Swinney said. “There shouldn’t be a poll until October.”
Auburn was picked to win the SEC at SEC Media Days, but the Tigers sit at 2-2 going into a matchup with San Jose State in Week 5. Auburn also began the season ranked No. 6 in the AP Poll.
Many coaches probably agree with Swinney’s assessment on having to vote on the poll so early in the season. But Swinney’s comments won’t make the fans of Arizona State, Oregon and Auburn happy.
