AUBURN, Ala. — Malcolm Askew spent nearly a week on campus at Auburn, and he decided he wants to spend a lot more time there in his future.
Askew, the nation’s No. 10 athlete in the Class of 2017, committed Saturday to Auburn during Big Cat Weekend. Listed at 5-foot-10.5 and 183 pounds, the McDory (Ala.) High School star choose the Tigers from more than 40 reported offers.
“I’ve been in the process for a long time, but coming here this week, walking around and getting a feel for the campus, meeting the players, it pretty much confirmed what I already knew,” Askew said. “I was pretty sure I knew where I wanted to go back when I made the visit and talked with Coach (Wesley) McGriff and Coach (Kevin) Steele back in January. Just spending this whole week with the coaches confirmed what I needed.”
Askew is the No. 11 player in the state of Alabama, and just outside the top 200 overall in the country, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Askew’s commitment is the likely reason for Tigers coach Gus Malzahn’s latest tweet.
