The latest release of the College Football Playoff rankings were released on Tuesday night, and it is most likely going to set up an epic matchup in the Iron Bowl.
Alabama rose to No. 1 thanks to Auburn’s win over previous No. 1 Georgia on Saturday, and the Tigers rose to No. 6, with the two teams facing off in the annual rivalry game next Saturday, Nov. 23 in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
ESPN college football analyst Booger McFarland knows who he would pick if the game was this Saturday.
“If Auburn and Alabama was playing this weekend, I would take Auburn,” McFarland said.
The Tigers seem to be hitting on all cylinders right now, as they blew out Georgia 40-17 on Saturday, dominating on both sides of the ball. The vaunted Georgia running game featuring Nick Chubb and Sony Michel was held to just 46 rushing yards, while Tigers running back Kerryon Johnson put on a show worthy of Heisman Trophy hype.
For McFarland, it all comes down to the fact that Alabama’s defense is not as good as it usually is.
“If you look at their [Alabama] hallmark, it has been their defense. That defense is very vulnerable.”
