When ESPN messes up, everyone notices. The Worldwide Leader made quite the mistake Saturday morning on College GameDay when it awarded the 2004 national championship to the Auburn Tigers.
Tom Rinaldi was recapping the history of LSU and Auburn games in a series of clips when he gave the Tigers an extra title.

USC technically won the 2004 national championship but later had to vacate the win after the Reggie Bush controversy. What makes the gaffe worse is that it was clips taped together with a voiceover from Rinaldi that was previously recorded, so somebody had likely already seen the montage before it went out live to a national audience. Rinaldi deserves his share of credit for tear-jerking packages over the years, but this slip of the tongue should have been caught.
