Monday night, Jacksonville State confirmed that former Auburn running back Roc Thomas will join the Gamecocks for their 2016 season.
Going back to last month, multiple reports had stated the former five-star recruited was leaving Auburn for the Alabama-based FCS program. Thomas will be eligible to play immediately because he’s moving down a level from FBS to FCS.
Thomas is Jacksonville State’s fourth FBS transfer this year, according to the school’s press release. He joins former South Carolina cornerback Al Harris, Jr., former LSU wide receiver Kevin Spears and former East Carolina offensive lineman Darius Anderson.
A native of Oxford, Alabama, Thomas collected 475 rushing yards and and four total touchdowns in two seasons at Auburn. His biggest game of the past season came against Idaho, when he ripped off a 56-yard run as part of a 78-yard, one-touchdown performance.
Last September, Auburn needed a fourth-quarter rally to avoid an embarrassing loss against the Gamecocks. The Tigers’ narrow win foreshadowed a disappointing 7-6 season.
Auburn granted Thomas his release on May 31.
