Chandler Wooten’s visit to Auburn on Tuesday wasn’t planned.
The three-star linebacker from Kennesaw, Ga., made a last-minute decision to accompany his high school coach, Shane Queen, to Auburn for a planned lunch.
The impromptu visit has now spawned the Kennesaw, Ga., native to return this Saturday with his family.
“Just how relatable I am with the coaches and how well we get along,” Wooten said when asked what stood out about the visit. “It’s a beautiful campus and every time I go I love it more each time.”
The trip also served as an opportunity for Wooten to bond with new linebackers coach Travis Williams, who was elevated to the role in January. Williams has been one of Wooten’s lead recruiters along with assistant coach Tim Horton.
“(Williams) is one of the coolest coaches I’ve talked to since I’ve been recruited,” Wooten said. “He’s been where I want to be and he knows what he’s talking about. He’s definitely someone I’d love to play for.”
In January, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound linebacker listed Auburn among his top schools, along with South Carolina, Clemson and others. He was originally supposed to commit at the end of January following a string of unofficial visits but later decided against it.
