AUBURN, Alabama — Illinois linebacker T.J. Neal has been accepted into graduate school at Auburn and is set to suit up for the Tigers this fall.
Neal’s approval was a formality and further confirms his plans to be on campus May 18. He’ll compete immediately for a starting job alongside Tre’ Williams in the linebacker corps.
The McKeeseport, Pa. native recorded 255 tackles during his Illinois career and started in all 25 games during his final two seasons with the Illini. He co-led the team with 15 tackles for loss, including two sacks, in 2015.
Neal is scheduled to graduate with a bachelor’s degree May 14 at Illinois.
“I’ve got to come in and do my part, be in shape, make plays and do what I’ve been doing that made me so successful,” Neal said in February, according to AL.com. “I did my research and there’s no one on that depth chart or roster who has the experience and credentials I have. They want me to be the quarterback of the defense.”
