On Tuesday, Auburn announced that it would be without senior defensive back Josh Holsey for the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL. But help could be on the way.
Junior defensive back T.J. Davis could return from an ACL injury he suffered in spring practice, Gus Malzahn said during his Wednesday teleconference.
Auburn’s secondary lost experience with the injury to Holsey, so if Davis can return and play well it will help tremendously.
Will Muschamp’s defense has been hit with a barrage of injuries, including defensive end Carl Lawson (hip), linebacker Justin Garrett (quad), and safety Tray Matthews (shoulder).
Lawson, Garrett, and Matthews are day-to-day and could return for the LSU game on Saturday. The defense will get an added boost if Davis can return against Mississippi State next week.
Davis played in 13 games last season and registered six tackles.
Gus on status of cornerback TJ Davis (torn ACL in spring): "We're hoping to have him back pretty quick. … Next week is a possibility."
