It’s the first week of college football and the hot takes are flying. However, no take bites as strong as the one by Jacksonville Jaguars defensive back Jalen Ramsey.
Speaking on his former Florida State teammate, Ramsey eviscerated Auburn quarterback John Franklin III on Saturday.
Franklin joined Auburn as a heralded junior college quarterback this offseason. He was competing with Sean White and Jeremy Johnson for the starting job.
However, Franklin came into the opening game against No. 2 Clemson last. His only pass attempt in the first half went for minus-3 yards.
After failing to beat out Jameis Winston for the starting job at Florida State, Franklin transferred to East Mississippi Community College. A 4-star recruit out of high school, he struggled to beat a Mississippi State walk-on for the starting job. His journey was one of those chronicled in the Netflix documentary Last Chance U.
But if Franklin left a former teammate with such a negative view of him, that’s a significantly worse sign.
