The grandfather of Auburn quarterback Jeremy Johnson, Ojedita Johnson Sr., was killed in a car accident on Wednesday, per a release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
Per the Montgomery Advertiser, Gary Hall, the principal of Carver High School in Montgomery, Ala., confirmed Ojedita Johnson Sr. was the grandfather of Jeremy Johnson. Ojedita Johnson Sr. was 65 years old.
Ojedita Johnson’s car struck a tree after leaving the road, and he was pronounced dead at Baptist Medical Center South.
Jeremy Johnson is one of three Auburn quarterbacks battling for the starting job. Jeremy Johnson has started nine games for the Tigers. He threw 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions last season, splitting time with Sean White.
Auburn opens the season at home against Clemson on Sept. 3.
