Auburn RB Kerryon Johnson will start SEC Championship Game vs. Georgia
ATLANTA — Auburn running back Kerryon Johnson is in uniform Saturday for the SEC Championship Game against Georgia.
Johnson, who suffered a shoulder injury in the second half of an Iron Bowl win over Alabama last weekend, dressed out and fully participated in pregame warmups at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. He was announced as the starting running back 25 minutes before kickoff.
Auburn coach Gus Malzahn called Johnson’s injury “day-to-day” throughout the week, and he said Friday he would be a “game-time decision.” Multiple Auburn teammates said they believed Johnson would play in the SEC title game.
Johnson didn’t warm up with the return men, as usual, but he took the field with the first wave of non-specialists. He lined up as the first-team running back in Auburn’s pregame pass skeleton drill.
