When Austin Wiley’s been on the basketball court for Team USA, he’s been hard to miss.
The rising sophomore first scored 15 points in an international friendly against Lithuania before nearly coming up with a double-double against medal favorite France, adding nine points and seven rebounds.
Still, the 6-foot-11, center has also caused a stir off the court, too. A photo hit Twitter on Friday afternoon of Wiley riding a camel. It was an activity, along with a visit to the Ancient Pyramids, that team USA enjoyed on their training day free of exhibition games of friendlies.
Before the season starts later this year the Tigers might want to add world traveler ahead of Wiley’s name on the official team roster. During the summer of 2016 Wiley helped Team USA win gold in Spain.
He’ll also travel to Italy with Bruce Pearl and the rest of the Auburn program in early August.
Pearl has been vocal about how international travel experiences have helped his teams develop chemistry and have success when the season rolls around. That seems to be the track Wiley, who has already made significant (and very visible) progress in the weight room, is on already.
