The Auburn Krystal has been trying to get inside the minds of Auburn opponents since 2012.
As the story goes, owner Tom Wadsworth started it in 2012 with a sign that said, “Go Auburn, beat somebody.”
“It was kind of just an instant thought,” Wadsworth says of his decision back in late October 2012 to use the restaurant’s marquee not only to advertise special menu items but his desperation as an Auburn football fan. “We kept wanting to put up ‘Beat…’ whoever we were playing, but we kept losing and losing.”
The response to the sign back then even led to an uptick in business for the fast food spot.
“It’s been positive, business has been up,” he says. “It’s hard to put on a finger on what increases business but we do get a lot of comments on it, like in the drive-thru, especially that first one. When we first put that up, some people thought we might have some negative comments on it, but it was just the opposite effect.”
Since then, victims of the sign have included Georgia and New Mexico State. In 2014, it offered free Krystal to the next Auburn defensive coordinator. Now, it looks like the trash talk will end with this posted to Twitter Sunday night.

Those “marquee memories” have luckily been saved by the Twitter community who thought they were funny enough to post. There are some legendary ones from the past three seasons below:

The Krystal sign even pre-dates the Malzahn era. Here’s another during the coaching search.

The sign has become a staple to the community over the years. Though it will still stand, it’s sad to see the humor likely taken out of it.
