The damage inflicted on the Toomer’s oak tree set on fire Saturday night was unknown Sunday morning and may not be clear for days, if not weeks.
According to a press release from the Auburn Police Department, a 29-year-old male was in custody. Surveillance video shows a man lighting toilet paper hanging from one of the trees and quickly walking away before a female points him out and appears to chase him down before exiting the frame of the video.
Auburn beat LSU on Saturday night, 18-13, in a wild finish. Rolling the trees — a longtime Auburn tradition before they were poisoned in 2011 and removed from Toomer’s Corner in 2013 — returned to Auburn this season and fans rolled the new trees with toilet paper when the Tigers defeated Arkansas State earlier this season.
