AUBURN, Ala. — Before Auburn football kicked off its homecoming matchup with Louisiana-Monroe, the men’s basketball Tigers hit the hardwood for their first scrimmages of preseason practice.
Bruce Pearl’s team had two different scrimmages on Saturday, which were open to the public at Auburn Arena.
In combined stats released by Auburn, forward T.J. Dunans led all scorers with 36 points on 16 for 19 shooting from the field. Graduate transfer center LaRon Smith scores 26 points, and highly touted freshmen Danjel Purifoy and Mustapha Heron both had 22 points.
Here are the stats from Auburn, along with some observations:

- Freshman guard Jared Harper stood out with 9 assists to just 1 turnover. Pearl talked highly of Harper after Friday’s opening practice, saying he would be a player fans “are going to want to buy tickets to see.” He went a fantastic 4 for 5 from 3-point range as well.
- Smith had a strong day of work at the free-throw line, hitting 12 of his 15 attempts from the charity stripe. The grad transfer, who will play center with sophomore Horace Spencer, had 26 points and 11 rebounds in the two games.
- Purifoy clearly is not going to be afraid to shoot from deep this season, even from the power forward spot. He had 10 attempts from downtown and knocked down 4 of them.
- Anfernee McLemore was the leading rebounder with 13 boards, including a solid 6 on the offensive glass.
