AUBURN, Ala. — Not much of a surprise here: Auburn coach Gus Malzahn still isn’t ready to name a starting quarterback.
The three-headed quarterback battle between sophomore Sean White, senior Jeremy Johnson and junior college transfer John Franklin III will continue beyond fall camp, which Malzahn said officially concluded with Monday morning’s practice despite his initial intention to hold a Monday night practice.
“I’m not ready yet. That could happen in the near future,” Malzahn said.
Malzahn said he doesn’t want to arrive at an ultimate decision until he’s “100 percent.”
After sitting out Saturday’s scrimmage, Johnson returned to practice Sunday and also participated in competition Monday morning. Malzahn indicated his hope to narrow the position battle down to two options before choosing the eventual starter for Week 1.
