AUBURN, Ala. — No. 7-seed Auburn softball solidified its NCAA Tournament Super Regional hosting role with a victory over Cal on Sunday.
The Tigers learned they’d be facing No. 10-seed Oklahoma when the Sooners topped the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in a Monday afternoon rubber game.
Now Clint Myers’ team knows exactly when it will play its games at Jane B. Moore Field this weekend.
The best-of-3 series will start on Friday (3 p.m. CT, ESPN2). Auburn and Oklahoma will meet again on Saturday (noon CT, ESPN). If a Game 3 is needed, it will be played on Sunday (noon CT, ESPN).
Brit Bowen and Brad Law will have the radio call, available on the official Auburn app and locally (95.9 FM).
Auburn and Oklahoma already have faced each other this season in a game that went the Tigers’ way. Having defeated the Sooners 3-2 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, there’s now a berth to the Women’s College World Series on the line.
Auburn pitcher Makayla Martin earned the season-opening win after 6 1/3 innings in the circle. Kaylee Carlson got the final two outs on strikeouts to earn the save.
Other important players in the victory in Mexico included Courtney Shea, who had an RBI single, and first baseman Kendall Veach, who pelted 2 solo homers.
Auburn has hosted Super Regionals in each of the last three seasons, all under Myers, who took over the program in 2014.
Oklahoma holds the 4-2 advantage in the series all-time.
