Start dreaming, Auburn fans. Paul Finebaum expects big things from the Tigers next season.
The ESPN analyst joined Birmingham’s WJOX-FM this week and gave an interesting opinion about Auburn’s chances next fall. Finebaum, who’s never short on takes, had fascinating words that will make Tigers fans excited.
“I have a very, very positive vibe from what I hear and what people are telling me about Auburn,” Finebaum said on the podcast. “They’re not going to sneak up on anybody right now. But I would be shocked if Auburn is not in contention. … I will be shocked if Auburn is not in contention for the SEC West next fall.”
Finebaum isn’t the first person to start the Auburn hype for 2017. Still, his words hold weight throughout the SEC. You can bet the Auburn chatter will only grow louder as we near the season.
There are reasons for optimism. The Tigers were impressive during a six-game winning streak from Sept. 24-Nov. 5. They finished 8-5 with a berth in the Sugar Bowl.
Sure, Auburn stumbled toward the end. The three losses in the Tigers’ last four games were alarming. But Jarrett Stidham’s arrival on the Plains has provided hope that Auburn will reach another level offensively this year.
It will be fun to see if Finebaum and others are right about the Tigers.
