AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn defensive end Paul James III is out for minimum of three to four weeks after suffering a meniscus injury, SEC Country learned.
At his weekly press conference Tuesday, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said James would likely miss the remainder of the season.
“Very unfortunate,” Malzahn said. “Happened last week in practice. It was kind of a freak drill. He was really doing a good job and improving. But it looks like he’ll be out for the rest of the season.”
James competed for a starting spot during the Tigers’ preseason camp. Through three games, the junior recorded three tackles, one tackle for loss and two quarterback hurries.
The Copiah-Lincoln Community College transfer enrolled at Auburn in January. He ranked fifth in sacks in the NJCAA and was named the MACJC most valuable defensive lineman in 2015.
